Edinburgh Schools Film Competition
We are delighted to once again partner with City of Edinburgh Council and Screen Education Edinburgh to give young people in Edinburgh the chance to have their film selected for the Festival and screened alongside leading filmmakers. Now in its seventh year the competition is open to all pupils in nursery, primary and secondary education. Work is viewed and selected by a Youth Jury who curates the programme and awards ceremony as presented at the Festival in June. The young filmmakers literally share a stage with leading filmmakers from across the world, so it is an excellent opportunity for any aspiring Spielberg.
In 2014, 148 films were entered from City of Edinburgh Schools, including Primary, Secondary, Special Schools and Nursery establishments. The Young Jurors selected the final 46 films which were screened as part of the Edinburgh International Film Festival in June with awards given to best of categories. Edinburgh Schools Film Competition 2015 – Launched
The unique aspect of this project is the core role of a panel of judges made up of young people experienced in film production who work with Screen Education Edinburgh to learn from film professionals and then select the films for screening.
For the first time we have taken the decision to announce the Award Categories at the start of the competition, so here they are:
- Best Animation
- Best Original Narrative
- The Creativity Award
- The Group Effort Award
- Best Documentary (Animation or Live Action)
- Best Film
- Best Story
- Best Composition
- Technical Achievement Award for Excellence in Camera, Sound and Editing.
- Best Acting
- Best Art Design
- Best Film Made by S1-3
- Best Film
The competition really is open to everyone and we encourage all schools to get involved. In previous years we have had animations from nurseries, awareness videos, comedy sketches, dramas, music videos, film trailers and every other genre you can think of. How good would one of these awards look in your lobby?
