What’s so good about growth at any cost?

Every day, little Julio’s father and mother try to stimulate his growth by pulling at his arms and legs and making him drink a growth serum. The progress of Julio and his family unfolds against the background of the development of the Philippines under the neocolonial patronage of the USA. This daring film, beautifully shot on Super 8, combines staged and archival footage to mount a biting critique of ideologies of development.
