Niko Apel

Niko Apel, born in Frankfurt in 1978, worked as projectionist for an art house cinema in Frankfurt. From 2002 to 2007 he studied documentary filmmaking at Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg. His diploma film Sonbol gained international attention at film festivals and won several prizes, including the First Steps Award and the Grimmepreis 2009. Today Niko Apel works freelance as director.
