Jack Goes Boating
Philip Seymour Hoffman, Amy Ryan, John Ortiz, Daphne Rubin-Vega, Tom McCarthy
Philip Seymour Hoffman’s behind the camera debut.
The director also plays Jack – a character he knows well, having played it many times on stage in Bob Glaudini’s play – an overweight, shy, reggae-loving, New York chauffeur looking for love, and aided in his quest by his married best buddy Clyde, who sees a possibility for Jack with one of his wife’s colleagues, the equally inclined-to-be-reticent, Connie. Beautifully realised characters played by a flawless cast, in a film that never quite lets you predict where it’s going to go next.
