And you thought China was far away.

Xiaolu Guo (How Is Your Fish Today? EIFF 2006) records a comparison of cultures through the experience of her parents’ first visit to Europe from China. Unable to speak due to throat cancer, her father communicates his subtle observations via delicate jottings, while his straighttalking wife doesn’t hold back on pointing out the differences she finds in the West – known back home as ‘Wonderland’. A pertinent film in the context of current East/West relations. ST
