?Born in Hong Kong, Wayne Wang came to the United States to study painting and film at California College of the Arts and Crafts. His first feature film Chan is Missing (1982) was inspired by his time as a social worker in San Francisco’s Chinatown. His first Hollywood feature, The Joy Luck Club (1993), won the Silver Bear Award at the Berlin Film Festival. His films include Smoke (1995), Anywhere But Here (1999) and The Center of the World (2001).
