About Young Critics

The 2021 EIFF Youth Young Critics Programme ran during the the 74th edition of EIFF in August 2021, offering free professional mentorships for young film writers during the festival. This year we opened the opportunity to all young people in the UK aged 18–25. We also committed to making the programme more accessible and inclusive by prioritising applications from people with backgrounds under-represented in film journalism. Our Young Critics programme is proudly supported by James and Morag Anderson.

In the below video, EIFF Young Critics Programme Senior Coordinator Andrew and EIFF Young Critics Programme Assistant Whelan talk through the application process.

The project's dedicated aim is to find new voices and nurture fresh talent, affirming the festival’s continuing support for the future of film criticism. Please meet our 2021 Young Critics and their professional mentors…
