Animators Seize the Seat
10:30 – 13:00

Access: Anyone can attend, however EIFF would like to apologise that due to the nature of this activity it would not be suitable for attendees with restricted movement, although Summerhall has provision for disabled access.

A much-loved EIFF tradition, the Animators Walk to the top of Edinburgh’s Arthur’s Seat not only offers an informal and active opportunity to get to know animators participating in the Festival, but also gives you the chance to catch the most breath-taking views of the city. The walk, which is dependent on the weather, is suitable for all fitness levels and should take no longer than two hours.

The walk ends at Royal Dick Bar in Summerhall around 12:30/13:00 where you can also join the group (lunch not included). Many local animators have studios in Summerhall.

If you would like to participate, please congregate from 10:30 for an 11:00 start at Holyrood Palace Car Park (situated within Holyrood Park at the side of Holyrood Palace on Queen’s Drive). Our Animation Programmer Iain Gardner will be leading the group over the Seat.

Diversity in LGBTQ+ Programming
16:00 – 17.30
EIFF Press & Industry Centre

Access: EIFF Passholders

There are a limited amount of free tickets available to the public via Eventbrite

Despite the significant increase in LGBTQ+ representation on screen in recent years, there is still a considerable gap with regards to the diversity of this representation. Film festivals are often some of the only places where diversity can be fully realised in the exhibition of LGBTQ+ cinema. This session will explore the process of programming LGBTQ+ film, and finding the balance in representations.

Our panellists, including Helen Wright of the Scottish Queer International Film Festival, Roisin Geraghty of GAZE LGBT Film Festival Dublin, Lydia Beilby and Kim Knowles of EIFF, and director Madeleine Olnek (Wild Nights with Emily, Codependent Lesbian Space Alien Seeks Same), will examine the recent mainstreaming of certain areas of the community, and the ways in which this impacts the programming and subsequent reception of LGBTQ+ cinema.
