Edinburgh International Film Festival is taking action to fight the Climate Emergency. Along with our partner organisations in Festivals Edinburgh we recognise the huge responsibility we have in protecting our Environment and our world from the worst effects of Climate Change. We also know that we have a pedestal and a megaphone and we want to use them to bring our audiences with us on our journey to #NetZero.

We’ll be playing our part as the City of Edinburgh reaches Net Zero Carbon by 2030. We’ll focus on reducing our carbon footprint in our venues by switching to truly renewable suppliers and by reducing travel associated with our creative programmes. We’ve measured and reported on our carbon footprint for Creative Scotland and we know where we need to make improvements. We’re determined to see these through.

We’re also committed to increasing the amount of films we show within our artistic programmes that tackle the Climate Emergency, whether those focus on habitat destruction, extreme weather or social emergencies caused by increasingly destabilized environments.

Over the past few years, Festivals Edinburgh have produced a comprehensive carbon reduction plan, which the individuals Festivals have contributed too. We’d like to thank partners at Festivals Edinburgh, Creative Carbon Scotland and City Of Edinburgh Council for helping us get this far. You can read more about our proposed reductions on this one-pager. We’re hopeful that with continuing collective action, we can avoid the worst effects of the Climate Emergency.
