EIFF Youth New Visions Short Film Competition plans to return this year, with the same dedicated purpose - to discover the newest voices in Scottish film and bring their visions to the global stage.
Launched in 2018 as part of our celebrations for the Year of Young People, New Visions Short Film Competition will run again in 2020 with the same dedicated purpose – to discover the newest voices in Scottish film and bring their visions to the global stage.
The competition is FREE to enter and is open to young people aged 15 to 25 who reside in Scotland. Films must have been completed after June 2019, not exceed 15 minutes running time and be Scottish premieres. There is no theme for the competition and films of all genres and mediums will be accepted including drama, documentary, animation, music videos, experimental and artist film.
We have currently removed the April deadline and will be accepting films on a rolling basis. Please do not delay entering the competition and check back regularly for updates.
We are asking young filmmakers to be responsible and follow UK Government and Scottish Government advice during the COVID-19 public health crisis. We will accept works in progress and encourage filmmakers to explore alternative ways of storytelling using archive footage, mixed-media and narration. Short reflective pieces on the current lockdown will also be welcomed.
All submissions will be reviewed virtually by EIFF’s Youth Advisory Group, who will then curate a shortlist of films to be screened at a later date.
A panel of judges - made up of film industry professionals - will watch the shortlisted films and give out two New Visions Awards, one for the age category 15-18 and one for the age category 19-25.
Download the competition guidelines below for more information on submissions requirements and how to enter.
