For its 74th edition in 2020, Edinburgh International Film Festival is excited to announce Scotland’s Shores, an exciting programme which will showcase some of the greatest moments in Scottish film history. The programme will set sail from 17 – 28 June 2020.
Film Fest on the Forth will be a totally unique outdoor cinema experience, where audiences can swap the multiplex for the sandy shores of the Forth, and dip their toes into a programme of classic films celebrating the many beautiful landmarks and locations on Scotland’s coasts and waterways that have featured on the big screen.
We’ll present a special retrospective, taking audiences behind the cinema screen, with amazing Q&As with filmmakers and location managers, taking audiences behind the scenes and illuminating the challenges and insights of filming on and around Scottish waters, and the steps filmmakers have to take to leave the land as they found it and protect it for generations to come.
Mark Adams, EIFF Artistic Director said:
"We are so delighted to be part of the Year of Coasts & Waters and to be able to show off some of the greatest moments in Scottish film history through their use of, and association with, some spectacular and evocative coasts and waterways.”
“Audiences will get to dip their toes into a selection of classic Scottish films, and we'll take people behind the cinema screen with amazing Q&As with filmmakers and location managers sharing their stories of filming on Scotland’s lochs, seas and waterways. We'll also have exciting events to inspire young filmmakers and established industry professionals.”
Splash into Scotland in 2020 as we celebrate our remarkable coasts and waters. Water is the life-blood of our green and pleasant country. It's what makes the landscape so special and loved. Explore some of our magnificent 10,000 km coastline by kayak or yacht, enjoy some delicious seafood and a wee dram from our seas and streams, uncover the secrets of a coastal fortress, or relax with a spot of fishing in our lochs and rivers.
