N: The Madness of Reason
Wendyam Sawadogo, Vieux Farka Touré, Hamadoum Kassogue / Fiction / French, Bambara, Fioula Sénoufo, Songhoy, Agni
An experimental portrait of a chronicler of Africa and a love letter to the continent.
Seeking to get away from an ageing Europe, Raymond Borremans (1906-1988) escaped to Ivory Coast while in his twenties. An adventurer, musician, projectionist and entomologist, he found there a new home and spent his life chronicling this once-rich African country. Unfortunately, his planned encyclopaedia of Ivory Coast was left unfinished at the letter N. This unique film-essay follows Borremans’ traces in Africa, creating a poetic dialogue between his reflections and the glorious past, the devastating present and the ambiguous future. [12A]
