Short Films by Jean Grémillon
In the last phase of his career, Jean Grémillon devoted himself to short documentaries on art and mysticism. Not merely an adjunct to his career, these late shorts give important insight into Grémillon's deepest concerns and convictions. These films contain the essence of his artistic and philosophical thought.
This special programme includes Grémillon's last three films, which are also the only films he made in colour: The House of Images (1955), Haute Lisse (1956), and André Masson and the Four Elements (1958).
The programme also includes a special screening of the legendary and extremely rare Astrology or the Mirror of Life (1952), in its complete 30-minute version. The score by experimental-music pioneer Pierre Henry marks the first use of a musique concrète score in cinema.
