‘An extraordinary forgotten story... a superb documentary.’ The Irish Times

Why is Bernard Natan (1886-1942) not remembered as one of the true giants of French cinema, and how did his amazing story come to be forgotten? David Cairns and Paul Duane have meticulously searched the archives to piece together the true story of this pivotal figure who once owned the mighty Pathé Studios. As well as providing a deeply moving account of one man’s life, this fascinating documentary is a must for all cinephiles.

Screening with:

The Pioneer (La Pionnière), Daniela Abke/Germany/2012/13 min
This elegant and touching documentary celebrates the work of Alice Guy, a great pioneer of cinema who is considered to have been the first woman filmmaker and the first filmmaker (of whatever gender) to make a fictional narrative film. The film compiles footage from a number of Guy’s surviving films from both the French and American periods of her career, which lasted from 1896 to 1920.
