The Midnight Sun Film Festival in Sodankylä, Finland, is a mecca for film lovers, famous for festival director Peter von Bagh’s in-depth and free-flowing interviews with visiting master directors. From the hundreds of hours of video recordings, von Bagh has made four feature-length documentaries that add up to a passionate and personal history of cinema. The first part, The Century of Cinema, focusses on World War II in relation to filmmaking. Screening with A Day at Karl Marx’s Grave (Peter von Bagh/Finland/1983/16 min).

Parts 2 through 4 will be shown at Filmhouse in July. See for details.
