Beauty in Trouble
Aña Geislerová, Jana Brejchová, Emília Vásáryová, Josef Abrhám, Roman Luknár / Fiction / Czech
Beauty in trouble flees to the good angel/On whom she can rely/To pay her cab-fare, run a steaming bath/Poultice her bruised eye...
Left homeless by a flood, and all out of passion for her tightly-wound petty criminal husband, the alluring Marcela (Aña Geislerová) takes her two kids and moves in with her mother. The mother's boyfriend is a monster, and the kids are unhappy, but Marcela can't afford to relocate - until a prosperous older man becomes besotted by her, and offers to help. Can Marcela distinguish love from gratitude? And has she really got her ex out of her system? Superb, sexy, consummately elegant Czech drama, inspired by the poem by Robert Graves and directed by Jan Hrebejk (Up and Down, EIFF 2005).
