Part of the Film Fest on the Forth Strand
Bringing a breath of fresh South Pacific air to the Scottish coastline, Whale Rider follows the story of Pai, a young Maori girl from Whangara. In her tribe, they believe that each village chief should be the first-born son and therefore, a descendant of Paikea - the Whale Rider. This tradition is challenged when the first born male dies at childbirth, survived only by his twin sister Pai. With her own ambition to succeed as chief, despite what traditions say, Pai fights for her birthright - for herself, for her tribe and for the whales who call her. Whale Rider is an empowered and uplifting coming-of-age tale that shines a spotlight on a determined and inspiring hero.
Seating at Film Fest on the Forth is done by socially distanced pods. When booking please select a pod that is relevant to your party size - you can choose either deck chairs or picnic-style seating on the ground. There must be an adult in each pod with children. Sometimes there may not be pods left that fit your party size, we're sorry for the disappointment!
