Never Look Away (Werk ohne Autor)
Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck’s epic film (nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at this year’s Oscars®) takes place over three decades in Germany, from the 1930s to the 1960s. Set against the backdrop of a changing country, Never Look Away’s story is art and love rather than politics. At its heart is Kurt Barnert (Tom Schilling), a fictionalised version of artist Gerhard Richter, who is forced to flee East Germany, eventually finding his voice as a talented and provocative artist. An ambitious, sprawling and beautifully made film. [15]
