As an actor she has starred in many films, including José Luis Cuerda’s Tocando Fondo, Ken Loach’s Land and Freedom, and Jose Luis Borau’s Niño Nadie and Leo, for which she was nominated for the Goya for Best Actress.
In a Foreign Land (En tierra extraña)
Bollaín’s powerful documentary is a key title in this year’s retrospective, a thought-provoking study of Spaniards in exile that also presents a fascinating perspective on Scotland’s capital city. In keeping with the rest of Bollaín’s directorial work, the cultural and emotional insights are profound and deeply compelling. First screened at the 62nd San Sebastián Film Festival, In a Foreign Land premiered in the UK as the opening film of the inaugural Edinburgh Spanish Film Festival. [U]
