Part of the European Perspectives Strand

Raucous Finnish comedy drama Aurora features striking locations and a truly impressive performance by Mimosa Willamo as freewheeling force-of-nature Aurora. Caught in a spiral of drugs, drinking and clubbing, Aurora is desperate to escape her snowy small-town existence. When she meets Iranian asylum-seeker Darian (Amir Escandari) and his young daughter, they form a tentative friendship. With English as their shared language, Aurora and Darian’s bitter, funny and honest romance plays out in the homeland of Santa Claus. [15]

Supported by James and Morag Anderson

Aurora is nominated for the 2019 Award for Best International Feature Film.
