P&I - Director Bio
Pablo Berger’s short film Mamá won him a grant to study filmmaking at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. His first feature film, Torremolinos 73, achieved success in numerous international festivals. Blancanieves, shot in black-and-white as a silent film, earned 10 Goya Awards, including Best Film. Berger has taught directing at the New York Film Academy, Cambridge, Princeton and Yale.
Abracadabra
Director Pablo Berger’s follow-up to the brilliant Blancanieves (2012) (also screening in this strand) is a dark comedy / wild fantasy featuring endearing performances from stars Maribel Verdú (Blancanieves) and Antonio de la Torre (The Last Circus, Marshland, The Fury of a Patient Man). With both Blancanieves and Abracadabra shortlisted as potential Spanish submissions to the Academy Awards®, Berger, a much-loved guest at the 57th EIFF, is rapidly becoming one of Spain’s most celebrated directors.
