Director Bio

Ben Elton is a multi-award-winning novelist, playwright, television writer, screenwriter and lyricist. He is also a theatre, screen and TV director, a stand up comedian and a very occasional actor. Born in London in 1959, Ben was state educated and studied drama at Manchester University where he now holds an honorary Doctorate. He began his professional career in 1981.

Ben Elton returns to film writing/directing after a gap of some 17 years with this Australian-set comedy that has some serious issues to raise in amongst its often very funny story of love and music. Set over three years, the same people attend Westival, a (fictional) folk music festival in rural Western Australia. The film revolves around the will-they-won’t-they romance between theremin player Roland (Robert Sheehan) and folk rocker Keevey (Rebecca Breeds), but it is in support characters that fun and insight is to be had.
