Director Bio

Haifaa al-Mansour is the first female filmmaker in Saudi Arabia and is regarded as one of its most significant cinematic figures. She is the director of 2005 documentary Women Without Shadows and her feature debut, Wadjda, was the first feature film shot entirely in Saudi Arabia and the first by a female director. The film received widespread critical acclaim and premiered at the 2012 Venice Film Festival.

Body

Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin (Elle Fanning) is a thoughtful young woman with a passion for writing and who is drawn to ghost stories. When she meets radical and charismatic poet Percy Bysshe Shelley (Douglas Booth), she is convinced she has met her soulmate. This striking period film tracks their life together, accompanied by her flirtatious stepsister Claire (Bel Powley), who is herself drawn to the louche Lord Byron (Tom Sturridge). The second feature from Saudi Arabian director Haifaa Al-Mansour (who made the acclaimed Wadjda in 2012).
