An exquisitely wrought portrait of a formidable musical talent.

Those familiar with the work of the incomparable pianist Glenn Gould know the factors that contribute to his myth – extraordinary childhood proficiency; obsessive dedication to his uniquely precise playing style; a fraught personal life; rakish, rock ‘n’ roll looks – and will revel in this beautiful, detailed evocation of his life. For those to whom he’s a new name or a marginal figure, this is a thoroughly pleasurable primer, and a work of art in its own right.

Fascinating insight into the slightly tortured world of Glenn Gould, and the people around him. For someone who had never really heard his work, the film fails to really explain what the difference was between his style and others, but it did make me want to investigate further myself. At times both funny and tragic, you don't have to be a classical music fan to appreciate this - the film spends as much time talking with and about Glenn as it does dealing with his music.
    Fascinating stuff...
