Roger Corman: In Person

  • 90 mins

The man. The legend. The adjective. You are invited to a Cormanesque event.

Roger Corman is the Rome of post-war American cinema; all roads lead to him. Before inventing 70s American cinema, by giving ‘the brats’ their break (stand up Scorsese, Coppola, Bogdanovich…), he reinvented the genres they worked within a decade earlier. Whether re-instating the psychology of terror within the horror genre, or lending grandeur to the once-moribund gangster film, he is American cinema’s Year Zero. Welcome to his New World. Welcome, Mr. Roger Corman.

Hats off to Hannah and the team for getting Roger to appear. He was a warm and funny man and the event was packed with classic anecdotes. Kim Newman was a surprisingly poor interviewer though, which I didn't expect.
