Investigating and exposing the secret lives of closeted gay politicians in the USA Dick has succeeded in presenting genuinely outrageous stories and forcing us to examine our own hypocrisies.
There are questions to be asked about the right an individual has to privacy and to what extent those who expose these politicians are fighting a just war. However, if, as in the case of at least one of Dicks subjects you are going to deny being homosexual even when caught soliciting for sex in a public toilet then go on to vote against any and all gay rights legislation there is an argument to be made for invading your privacy for the greater good.
My hope is that Kirby Dick turns his attention to those figures on the religous right in the States who loudly, proudly, proclaim homosexuality to be a terrible sin while they themselves are homosexual...hullo, Ted Haggard! That would be a story that really would cause "outrage"
For now we have to be thankful that there is a documentary film-maker who is prepared to tackle the big institutions and cause some discomfort for those in positions of power.
Outrageous.
