A work of stop-motion genius: witty, moving and utterly idiosyncratic.

From the dazzling imagination of Adam Elliot – an Oscar®- winner for the short Harvie Krumpet (EIFF 2003) – comes a dark but lovable tale of friendship against all odds. Australian schoolgirl Mary inadvertently becomes penpal to Max, a middle-aged, obese New Yorker with a unique mindset. Mismatched as they are, their connection endures… A work of stunning visual and narrative invention.

A beautiful film that is full of humour, great characterisation and a storyline that keeps you guessing to the end. Recommended.
