Darren Aronofsky: In Person

  • 90 mins

One of the world’s most inventive and dynamic directors talks about his work.

Darren Aronofsky seems to have achieved it all with lightning speed: the golden-boy breakthrough, Pi (EIFF 1998); the visceral, disturbing cult classic, Requiem for a Dream (2000); the difficult auteur statement, The Fountain (2006); and the mature, eloquent, out-and-out hit, The Wrestler (2008). Next he will take on the legend that is RoboCop. We are delighted to welcome this most revered of young Hollywood talents back to Edinburgh.

A missed opportunity - good event but should have been a great event. Ruined by an interviewer who mostly mumbled and rambled through various sycophantic questions, interspersed with clips which she had chosen and which were far too long. These ate into the limited time available with the Director and inevitably meant the event ended prematurely, hardly reaching a discussion on his most recent work, The Wrestler. Arronofsky came across as quite selfafacing, funny, open and patient. Pity we didn't get the right interviewer to help reveal more of his thoughts and ideas to us.

Agree with Richard - the interviewer was not good
