Mary Sweeney
With Baraboo, Mary Sweeney adds directing to her body of work as a writer, producer and editor. A long time collaborator with David Lynch, beginning with Blue Velvet (1986), she edited Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me (1990), Lost Highway (1997), The Straight Story (2000), and Mulholland Drive (2001), which earned her a British Academy Award in 2001 for Best Editing. Baraboo, based on her original screenplay and which she also produced and edited, is her directorial debut.

I thought this was a wonderfully thought provoking film. Emotionally inteligent, subtle and clever. It is also beautifully shot. While I enjoyed the other two films, I thought this is quite special. It is quite slow burning but ultimately rewarding and (I hate using the term) heart warming. I hope it gets the attention it deserves and I look forward to buying it on DVD. In the meantime, i'm going to watch Straight Story again.
