Ben Barnes, who stars as Prince Caspian in the high-octane Narnia sequel due to sweep Britain’s multiplexes later this month, is among the latest addition to EIFF’s increasingly glitzy guest line-up.
Attentive star-gazers can get a taste of his budding majesty at EIFF’s UK Premiere of Bigga than Ben: A Russian’s Guide to Ripping Off London, in which he plays the titular menace. Accompanying him at the screening will be the film’s director Suzie Halewood.
Members of this year’s Michael Powell Jury have also now been named, with pedigree actor Danny Huston (The Constant Gardener, Children of Men) presiding over the panel of notables who will come together to elect a champion from the British films in competition for the prestigious Michael Powell Award.
Huston will be joined in the Jury by veteran producer Sigurjon Sighvatsson (Wild at Heart, Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait), actor Joely Richardson (Nip Tuck), director Iain Softley (K-Pax, Inkheart), and writer Scarlett Thomas.
EIFF 2008’s World Premiere of The Kreutzer Sonata, which features Huston in the lead role, brings further significance to the actor's presence at the Festival, and the red carpet will duly unfurl for him and his fellows on 20 June. The film’s director Bernard Rose, co-star Elisabeth Röhm and musician Melanie Hadley are expected to make up his entourage.
Other confirmed red carpet guests include director Charles Martin Smith and actors Charlie Cox, Billy Boyd and Robert Carlyle for their enchanting collaboration Stone of Destiny; seasoned British actor Emily Mortimer for her elegant thriller Transsiberian; and local comedy heavyweight Dylan Moran for his acerbic new feature A Film with Me in It.
Another name which stands out from the list is French cultural icon Cedric Klapisch whose new film Paris, showing as part of our Directors' Showcase strand, extracts the essence of modern French life.
Guests will generally attend the first, if not both, of their film’s programmed screenings, and audiences will have the opportunity to quiz them in a Q&A session at the end of the show.
