EIFF and Sheffield Doc/Fest Joint Screenings

The deal means select docs will enjoy outings at both events.

LONDON -- The organizers of the annual Sheffield Doc/Fest and the Edinburgh International Film Festival have teamed for the first time in their respective histories for a joint screening venture.
James MarshProject Nim, which world premiered at Sundance earlier this year, is the first project to get an airing at both events as a result of the two festivals' plan to jointly screen a slew of documentaries at their upcoming editions.
The Sheffield event nows runs June 8 through 12 after shifting to a summer slot, just ahead of Edinburgh's dates of 15 to 26 later the same month.
The two festivals could potentially have been vying for films for their respective lineups but the new partnership means that a number of documentaries will be able to screen at both festivals.
Other documentaries to receive joint U.K. premieres include Danfung Dennis’ Hell And Back Again, Dominic Allan’s Calvet, Mika Kaurismaki’s Mama Africa and Alma Har’el’s Bombay Beach.
Sheffield Doc/Fest director Heather Croall said that the partnership “makes the U.K. the place to be in June for all documentary makers and documentary lovers.”
EIFF director James Mulligan added: “In these austere times, everyone in the creative industries needs to explore new collaborations, festivals included. We’ve always been passionate about our commitment to British and international documentary and we’re delighted to welcome Sheffield to June.”
