Guests of the Fest

EIFF has made a list, checked it twice and can confirm that some very special guests will be making their way to Edinburgh.

Guests of the Fest will often introduce their film and also take part in a Q&A afterwards so you can even pose a question.

Huge director, Ben Miller will be bringing along Johnny Harris who plays one half of the film’s desperate comedy duo. Harris is no stranger to the Festival after his chilling turn as Derek in London to Brighton (EIFF 2006) while Bionic Woman Michelle Ryan will add a touch of glamour to proceedings.

For the Gala International Premiere of The Dry Land, Ugly Betty’s alter ego America Ferrera will be making an appearance alongside Jason Ritter and Ryan O’Nan. Director Ryan Piers Williams, also attending, boldly depicts the domestic troubles that follow the trauma of war.

Director of the brilliant and incredibly cute Etre et Avoir, Nicolas Philibert will be in Edinburgh to introduce just one ‘cheeky monkey’. Nénette has turned forty and despite the opinions of others, happily minds her own business. This is because Nénette is an orang-utan and knows better than to take notice of the petty humans in this charming, reflective film.

Not only is Rafi Pitts present as a Michael Powell Award juror, he will also Premiere his latest film, The Hunter. A powerful thriller that sees Pitts on both sides of the camera as director and as Ali; an ex-con attempting to live lawfully for his wife and daughter.

Zach Clark, who premiered runaway success Modern Love is Automatic (EIFF 2009) returns with Maggie Ross and Lydia Hyslop for his latest film. Vacation! is another cult classic in the making where four city girls head to the beach in search of relaxation only for their plans to go drastically wrong as sun, recreational stimulants and competitive spirit lead them astray.

Ryan Denmark will also be returning to EIFF to follow up Under the Radar smash Juliet vs the Living Dead with Chase the Slut. He will be joined by cast members Vanessa Claire Smith and Michael Kirby who play Chase, a woman on a mission to seduce a virgin and her target, Gabe.

Other stellar directors set to attend include Mohamed Al-Daradji with the excellent Son of Babylon, Yorgos Noussias with gore-tastic zombie flick, Evil in the Time of Heroes and Debra Granik with taut thriller, Winter's Bone.

Remember to check back on Monday for next week's guest highlights. Tickets can be purchased online, by telephone on 0131 623 8030 or in person at Filmhouse.
