We round-up the latest news from your favourite EIFF features, including some great news as the awards season kicks off.

A host of features which received a Premiere at EIFF have been scooping awards around the globe.

Peter Strickland’s drama Katalin Varga, a 2009 Premiere, was a winner at the recent European Academy Awards, picking up the European Discovery award.

Another winner on the night was perhaps the only film which will ever feature a disemboweled talking fox and female circumcision, the controversial Antichrist. It picked up two prizes on the night, including Best European Film and a cinematography Award for EIFF In Person guest, Anthony Dod Mantle.

Featuring a Foxx of an altogether different kind, Kathryn Bigelow’s The Hurt Locker was awarded the top two prizes by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association, the Best Film and Best Director gongs.

Low-fi hip-flick, Unmade Beds, picked up a Crystal Arrow at the inaugural Les Arcs European Film Festival, and if you missed it at the Festival, it’s on general release now. Get along for an entertaining dose of twenty-something angst.

Also on general release from 18 December is the comedy Humpday, which won the Rotten Tomatoes Critical Consensus Award at EIFF 2009.

The new year sees the release of the low-budget thriller, Exam, which hits cinemas on 8 January. An edge-of-your-seat number, it’s the most inventive British thriller in a while.
