Everyone loves to do a bit of star spotting... we reveal some of the big names from home and abroad coming to EIFF 2009.

EIFF has never been short of cinematic talent, but this year sees an astounding star-studded line-up set to grace the red carpet and beyond at the Festival.

There aren't many names bigger than our very own Patron, Sir Sean Connery, who will be present  for a special celebration of returning EIFF alumni - one of a series of Homecoming Scotland events.

Among those making a return visit will be actors Alan Cumming, Robin Wright-Penn and Ian Hart , and internationally-renowned directors Alfonso Cuarón, Andrea Arnold and Bill Forsyth.

Those familiar with EIFF will be equally familiar with Shane Meadows and Paddy Considine - both of whom have virtually become Festival institutions. The pair return for the World Premiere of comedy Le Donk and a special filmmaking event.

Of course, there will be plenty of Festival freshmen, some of whom will be seeing Scotland's capital for the first time.

There will be plenty of buzz around the appearance of Diego Luna and Gael Garcia Bernal the stars of Rudo & Cursi, who are making their first on-screen appearance together since Y Tu Mama Tambien. They'll be joined on the red carpet by director Carlos Cuarón, for one of this year's most eagerly anticipated international titles.

Other established Hollywood names expected to be present, include William H. Macy and director Kathryn Bigelow .

And that's just for starters! We'll be announcing the full line-up exclusively to Web Members on 8 June. Not already a Web Member? Register now - it's free, quick and easy.
