The Monte Hellman film, Cockfighter, will no longer be screening on Tuesday 22 August at 21:30 and has been replaced with another of his great works from the same era, Two-Lane Blacktop.
The details for the new screening are as follows:
Director: Monte Hellman
Country of Origin: USA
Running Time: 102 minutes
Showing at 21:30 on Tuesday 22 August at Filmhouse
Two car freaks – the Driver (singer/songwriter James Taylor) and The Mechanic (former Beach Boys drummer Dennis Wilson) – propel their 1955 Chevy throughout the southwest US, seeking other cars, other drivers, to race. The car is their only world, subordinating every other relationship – even the girl (Laurie Bird) they pick up along the way. But then, at a gas station, they meet G.T.O. (Warren Oates), a middle-aged drifter with a gift for self-promotion, and decide to race to Washington DC … the winner will take the loser's car. A landmark in the mold of 'Easy Rider', this existential road movie – shot mostly on the famous Route 66 – captures a lost slice of Americana, magnificently shot in widescreen.
Please note that tickets for Two-Lane Blacktop will be available offline only; in person from the Filmhouse Box Office and by telephone on 0131 623 8030.
Winners of EIFF 2014’s short film awards and two of its documentary premieres have been nominated for 2015 BAFTAs.
