Live in Edinburgh, the master of the undead! A late addition to the Reel Life line-up, George A. Romero, "Father of the Modern Horror Film" takes the stage for a live, in-depth interview.
Director of the horror classics Night of the Living Dead, and Dawn of the Dead, Romero’s Reel Life appearance compliments the screening of his newest ‘dead’ instalment, Land of the Dead.
Romero’s distinctive blend of social commentary and zombies has earned him a key place in the pantheon of cult film directors. The undead odyssey began in 1968, with the release of Night of the Living Dead. Noted for both its high level of gore and a keen sense of social satire, the film is now considered one of the most influential horror films of all time. Ten years later, Romero followed with his masterpiece, Dawn of the Dead, a savage attack on consumerism and American culture, disguised as a zombie flick.
Land of the Dead, Romero’s latest offering finds the zombie hordes once again on the loose, while simultaneously poking fun at the American penchant for gated communities and wilful ignorance. Staring Simon Baker, Dennis Hopper and John Leguizamo, the film delivers ‘'a satisfyingly splattery feast of guts and ideas.’
Romero’s Reel Life interview is a unique opportunity to hear the director discuss his latest film, and to look back at the ideas and events that have shaped his work thus far.
