And the stars come out as well... EIFF welcomes the cast of this charming comedy-drama to this year's Festival
It is fitting that On a Clear Day has its UK premiere in Edinburgh - after all, the film was shot on location in Scotland. Directed by Gaby Dellal, the film stars Peter Mullan, Billy Boyd and Jamie Sives, all of whom will be in attendance at the 59th Edinburgh International Film Festival.
"I enjoyed my time living in Scotland and working with the Glasgow crew immensely, who were great supporters and collaborators on the film. I feel very proud to have worked with Peter Mullan and it is an honour to have the UK premiere in Scotland, especially at my favourite film festival. I could not dream of a more perfect place to launch On A Clear Day," says Dellal.
On a Clear Day follows Frank (Peter Mullan) as he suffers from a mid-life crisis, which he attempts to solve by swimming the English Channel. Frank is aided in his quest for self-esteem by four friends, and their adventures, both separately and together, form the basis of this crowd pleasing comedy-drama.
"On a Clear Day is an unusually persuasive example of British commercial filmmaking - with uniformly strong performances, and some very fine-looking locations... mostly Scottish, I'm pleased to say. I'm sure it will delight our audience here at EIFF," says EIFF Artistic Director, Shane Danielsen. On a Clear Day screens as part of the British Gala Programme.
Tickets for this and other screenings will be available when the Box Office opens on 15 July.
Fribourg International Film Festival (FIFF) and Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF) are pleased to announce their collaboration on an ambitious retrospective called The History of Iranian Cinema by Its Creators.
