Since 2001 the EIFF has successfully provided Media Day events for S5 and S6 Media Studies pupils. These one-day events are relevant to the curriculum and each offer a premiere screening of a film from the Festival, usually with the filmmakers in attendance, plus three 40 minute sessions with a range of film industry professionals.
EIFF is in a privileged position in being able to draw upon some of the finest British and international filmmakers to take part in our education programme. Over the years guests have included Sir Sean Connery, directors Ken Loach, Antonia Bird and Michael Caton-Jones, screenwriter Paul Laverty, editor Anne Coates, cinematographer Brian Tufano and legendary documentary filmmakers DA Pennebaker and Chris Hegedus. The involvement of organisations such as the British Board of Film Classification, the Leith Advertising Agency, BBC and Skillset also aims to provide career guidance for those who wish to work or study further in the media.
