Gideon Koppel

Gideon Koppel studied photography and film at the London College of Printing and continued his research in mixed media as a postgraduate student at the Slade School of Fine Art. His prolific work as a film maker and artist is exhibited in a wide variety of formats: from the stylised BBC Wales drama-documentary 'Jones', to the film installation for the fashion label 'Comme des Garçons', screened at the
Florence Biennale and the controversial, never-broadcast BBC documentary 'Ooh la la and the art of dressing up', which explores the psychopathology of celebrity.

His first feature-length film sleep furiously, produced with Margaret Matheson, premieres at 2008 EIFF and involves collaborations with the writer Peter Handke and musician-composer Aphex Twin. The film director Alex Cox wrote in 'Film Comment': “The film is visually remarkable... what could be bleak in another film is infinitely beautiful here... and what might otherwise seem hopeless, is redeemed and made marvelous... sleep furiouslyis the least anthropocentric film I've ever seen.”

Gideon is an award-winning director of film commercials, a faculty member at the University of London and teaches with Professor Theodore Zeldin at l’École des Hautes Études Commerciales (HEC), Paris.
