In what may be regarded as a premature career change, Alia moved to London in 2004 to train at the Central School of Speech and Drama immediately after having completed an MA in Social Anthropology at the American University of Beirut in Lebanon. As an actress, Alia has appeared in various theatre productions in Lebanon including Godot and Lysistrata (Arab Theatre). Her theatre credits in the UK include The Open Couple (One Of Each), The Lady Survives (Metaplay), and Yarn (Grid Iron).
Her TV credits include the title roles in the docu-drama Hijack (BBC 4) and in the feature film Trouble Sleeping (Theatre Workshop/ Makar Productions).
