Recent years have witnessed increasing interest in the use of animation aesthetics and production techniques to explore subject matter traditionally deemed to be the preserve of live-action documentary cinema. Animated Realities brings together filmmakers and theorists from a diverse range of disciplines in order to discuss this hybrid and rapidly expanding area of contemporary film and visual culture.

BAFTA and Shooting People present Short Sighted!

BAFTA and Shooting People present ‘Short Sighted’, an intensive day devoted to helping you get your short film distributed.

The sessions cover every step in the process of getting your film out to an audience and the people who might fund future work, from maximising your film’s festival life to knowing the inside on traditional short film sales to TV and DVD. They also aim to help you judge when and where to put your film online, to look at where short film exhibition is headed in this digital age, and how this might start to generate revenue for filmmakers.

Speakers include: Rebecca Mark Lawson, Philip Ilson (Branchage / LSFF), Chris Tidman (Shorts International), Liz Harkman (Encounters Short Film Festival), Hannah Vincent (Itzon), Jamie King (VODO), Jamie Dolling (You Tube) and Jon Reiss.

A former Film Adviser of British Council, Jude has experience working as an Executive Producer on more than 70 short films for UKFC including a BAFTA winner, and can also draw on her experiences working as a film advisor at the British Council to promote British cinema around the world.
Jude is happy to offer filmmakers advice on pitching, getting shorts made and seen, story development (including fiction, animation, and documentary), standing out in a crowded international market, budgeting, progressing from shorts to feature and top tips and common mistakes that happen in short filmmaking.

One of the most innovative independent record labels and publishing houses gets its teeth stuck into soundtracks, and gives them a good shake.

Responsible for artists such as The Kills, Arctic Monkeys and Franz Ferdinand, join Domino’s Head of Synchronisation as she edits Domino music to film whilst talking through the pitch process from the perspective of an in-house synchronisation team and invites frank discussion about what music rights holders and film producers demand from music uses in film, commercials, games and TV. Take your seat to hear both British and international writers, directors and producers discuss their latest projects and listen to the industry insiders reveal all about the key topics affecting the world of filmmaking today.

Today’s filmmaker in focus is writer/director Paul Fraser, longtime collaborator of Shane Meadows, and at the Festival with his feature directorial debut, My Brothers. Interviewing him will be filmmaker and blogger extraordinaire, Shooting People’s Ben Blaine.
