Director’s Lab Session (Open):
Storytelling and Documentary

The Director’s Lab is a five-day, residential development programme for six emerging UK feature film directors. The Director’s Lab is supported by the UK Film Council, Film4, 4Talent, Skillset and EIFF and is managed by Lifesize Pictures.
Throughout the programme the Director’s Lab is opening up one workshop per day to EIFF industry delegates, further details of which will be available soon, so please check back for updates.

Meet the European Funders

In association with Screen South’s Cine Euro project, EIFF is offering delegates unprecedented access to fund heads from some of Europe’s larger regional funds. Quiz the executives directly about funding criteria, eligibility, new funds opening up and European opportunities for UK-based production companies.
The session will include a panel presentation from attending European representatives of the Cine-Regio group, followed by Q & A. Funds represented include: Film I Väst, Sweden; CRRAV, France and Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung, Germany.

US/UK Agents and Manager Panel

A panel of US & UK Agents and US managers will offer advice to the next generation of filmmakers. They will impart their knowledge about "how it works in the US" and how the relationships between US agents, managers and publicists is different from the way UK agents work

A Finance Masterclass with Paul Brett
12:30-14:00, Henry Irving room, Lyceum Theatre
Founder of Prescience Films, Paul Brett has financed and executive produced over 20 feature films. Join him with Chris Chandler (Northern Alliance) for an informative and practical session outlining the basics of putting together a finance plan, what buyers are looking for and ways to package your product for investment.
Paul developed and implemented the UK exhibition and distribution strategy over a three year period at the British Film Institute and UK Film Council, leaving in June 2003 to found Prescience with Tim Smith. At the BFI, Paul was responsible for relationships with exhibitors throughout the UK and Northern Ireland, including both arthouse and commercial cinemas.
Prior to this, he worked for Miramax International as Vice President, European Marketing, as well as Pathé/Guild, VCI and CIC (a joint venture between Paramount and Universal).

Performed Reading 3: Poor Things by Alasdair Gray

A first glimpse at long awaited film projects from stars of Scottish writing. In collaboration with the Traverse Theatre, we present three film scripts currently in development. In this final reading, Alasdair Gray has adapted his own much-loved novel Poor Things, for the big screen.
These three very different scripts demonstrate the talent and diversity of contemporary Scottish screenwriting – and our readings offer an opportunity to hear these films of the future being read by professional actors.

The New producers Alliance presents: the Life of the Independent Producer

Join NPA for a panel discussion outlining the challenges and rewards of working as an independent producer in the UK at this time. Featuring NPA members currently striving – and surviving – as independent producers, topics will include how producers survive financially between projects, how they manage various projects at the same time, how recent industry trends have affected them and how to move projects to the international market place.
Suitable for mid-high level delegates.

6pm Panel: Taking the Temperature of British Film

The UK Film Council’s New Cinema Fund supported several films in this year’s EIFF (including Better Things; Donkey Punch; Man on Wire). Representatives of the fund will be there to discuss the current condition of UK cinema.
