Director’s Lab Session (Open):
The Natural Story - a Masterclass with Mogens Rukov

The Director’s Lab is a five-day, residential development programme for six emerging UK feature film directors. The Director’s Lab is supported by the UK Film Council, Film4, 4Talent, Skillset and EIFF and is managed by Lifesize Pictures.
Throughout the programme the Director’s Lab is opening up one workshop per day to EIFF industry delegates, further details of which will be available soon, so please check back for updates.
One of Europe’s most respected screenwriters, Mogens Rukov is co-writer of the award-winning features Festen, Reconstruction and The Inheritance, and was a consultant on many other films, including Idioterne (the Idiots), Bænken (the Bench) and Skagerrak. Rukov founded the screenwriting department at the National Film School of Denmark.

UK Film Council presents:
Meet the UK Funders
10:00 - 13:00, Mercure Point Penthouse
Join senior representatives from the UK Film Council, Channel 4, BBC and larger production funds
run by national and Regional Screen Agencies for a comprehensive overview of support and funds
available for UK production.
This is a higher level event aimed at producers who have real projects in development which may be part-financed already, who can benefit from access to senior UK fund heads.
A panel of UK commissioners will present the opportunities and intervention currently available to UK producers for indigenous production. The panel will be followed by a closed round table networking session, which participants must sign up for prior to attending the session.

Our programme features notable adaptations, from Elegy and The Kreutzer Sonata to The Connection and Jules et Jim so is this a surefire route to a hit? Is it easier than creating a brand new story? And is the original writer the best person to adapt a work?

Glimpse the future, with our showcase of the hottest new filmmaking talent.
In association with Skillset, EIFF presents a dynamic showcase of film work from the UK's seven Skillset Screen Academies, featuring the work of our 2008 Trailblazers. Trailblazers are selected from the EIFF feature programme and from the Screen Academies' graduating classes: look out for the Trailblazers brochure to find out all about them. Films from last year's Trailblazing Shorts programme travelled to festivals all over the world, and were given their own showcase at April's Tribeca Film Festival in New York City.

From Quadrophenia to Trainspotting: Britain’s most punk rock cinematographer! With a jeweller’s eye for atmosphere and detail, Brian Tufano has provided the visual identities for some definitive British films. Among his triumphs are the still-influential Shallow Grave and Trainspotting; East is East; Billy Elliot; Last Orders; Shane Meadows’ Once Upon a Time in the Midlands; Menhaj Huda's Kidulthood and its new sequel, Noel Clarke's Adulthood. In a year when we welcome many of the world’s finest cinematographers in person, this is a chance to question a British master.

Join GMAC for the Edinburgh film festival launch of the scheme and meet the new shortcuts filmmakers who will be premiering their films later this year.
