road you never imagined.
Getting an agent is not the only thing – it’s understanding how they and the whole US system works.
Share the experience of Scottish talent who have US representation. To help you prepare to meet US agents, manage your and their expectations, contract with them, work with them, and make the most use of them, Scottish Screen has invited along some key Scottish talent, who are in the fortunate position to be represented on both sides of the pond.

Is working with a creative producer a help or a hindrance to a writer?
Stuart Kemp leads a discussion with dynamic creative partners to gain insight into the creative relationship between producers and writers. Panellists include Duncan Kenworthy, Jeremy Brock and Samm Haillay and Duane Hopkins.
Join the debate with established partnerships for an honest look at the assumptions and truths behind this dynamic relationship. Should writers just be grateful their work is being made? At what stage in the process does the writer give up their work to the producer and director to get on and make the film? And what do creative producers bring to the writing process?

An Introduction to HD Cinematography with Paul Wheeler, London Film Academy

Paul Wheeler BSC trained at BBC Film Department and has worked as a cinematographer for many years, and for the last seven he has specialised in High Definition. He has written the definitive book on HD cinematography and teaches at London Film Academy.
Join this industry expert for an introductory session outlining the benefits and opportunities afforded by shooting on HD, supported by examples of Paul’s current and past work – shown as it should be, in the cinema.

Casting Symposium: produced by Nancy Bishop

EIFF presents top casting directors and talent agents on a panel to discuss topics of interest to actors. This two hour symposium will include one hour, moderated by Nancy Bishop, in which panelists John Hubbard, Maureen Duff, Priscilla John, Maryam Hunwick, and Derek Power will discuss:
- How actors can establish a relationship with agent and casting directors
- What are casting directors looking for in actors
- How actors can best promote themselves
- What are the possibilities for Scottish actors to reach beyond the Scottish, and UK market
- What is the process for actors to pursue work in the US
This will be followed by a one-hour question and answer session, in which participants can directly address the panel.
Public ticketed event, designed for actors, acting students and other related professionals.
