Born and raised in Ohio, Jake Mahaffy's experimental shorts and feature-length War (EIFF 2004) have screened in festivals and competitions around the world. He studied filmmaking at Rhode Island School of Design and the Russian State Institute of Cinematography in Moscow. For Free In Deed, Mahaffy received a Rockefeller Media Arts Fellowship and a Guggenheim Fellowship among others.
