A painter, writer and director, John Maybury began shooting films in and around London's punk scene. While sustaining a career as a film and video artist, Maybury also directed promotional videos for major recording artists, including Boy George and Sinead O'Connor; the video for her hit single "Nothing Compares 2 U" won three major MTV

awards, including Video of the Year. His award-winning feature films include Remembrance of Things Fast(1994) and Love is the Devil(1998), which won the Michael Powell Award for Best New British Film at the Edinburgh Film Festival.
