Ian Fitzgibbon was born in Dublin in 1962 and studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. After nine years as a working actor he began directing short films, with Between Dreams being accepted into the official competition of the 1999 Venice Film Festival. Since then he has written and directed the award winning series Paths to Freedom (2000), Spin The Bottle (2003) and the two- part series Showbands as well as The Clinic, which is one of the most popular dramas on Irish television.
