Bleak Street (La calle de la amargura)
Juan Francisco Longoria and Guillermo Lopez, Patricia Reyes Spindola, Nora Velázquez, Sylvia Pasquel / Fiction / Spanish
Gloriously eccentric and bizarre tale of Mexican murder and wrestling.
Gloriously eccentric and bizarre tale of Mexican murder and wrestling. The always-watchable Mexican legend Arturo Ripstein (Deep Crimson) revels in the surreal strangeness of Bleak Street (La calle de la amargura), a twisted and twisting story of two masked midget twin lucha wrestlers named Little Death and Little AK (Juan Francisco Longoria and Guillermo Lopez), their long-suffering wives and aging prostitutes. Murder, street hustling and cross- dressing all feature in this playfully lurid film shot in glorious black-and-white.
