Introduction to Film Studies 1: The Art of Scottish Cinema
What are the main features that give the cinema of Scotland its singularity? From the poetic films of Margaret Tait to the work of Scottish directors such as Lynne Ramsay and Peter Mullan, Martine Pierquin (Open Studies, University of Edinburgh) will offer an overview of some of the artistic trends and influential films that define Scottish cinema. Using film excerpts, the lecture will examine how, in today's global context, Scottish cinema can be seen as simultaneously local, national and transnational. [U]
