Documentary / Algerian
An imaginative personal documentary on the reshaping of a nation.
A chronicle of co-director Loualiche's travelling back to his Algerian homeland after ten years' absence. As he wanders through the northern coastal area of Kabylia, the memories of a burning house and the reasons for his departure come back to him. The film becomes a continuous forward movement anchored in physical space, and a profound reflection on the past. The genres of documentary and fiction effortlessly melt together, and a new entity emerges: a personal Algeria shaped by history and memory. [12A]
